PSORIASIS AND ITS HOMEOPATHIC TREATMENT

Is psoriasis really curable? Can its recurrence be permanently stopped? Why use homoeopathy for psoriasis? How is it so that a disease which is termed incurable by the orthodox system of medicine can be cured with homoeopathy? These intriguing questions are very commonly faced by homoeopaths all over the world, dealing in skin disorders.

Firstly, one needs to know that research shows that Homoeopathic medicines work by optimising our defence mechanisms. Psoriasis is a result of an overreaction of an immune response, and homeopathy cures it by optimising the immune over-response. It does not suppress the immune system. So, homoeopathic healing is not a miracle or a lucky exception but a fact of biology; the result of the optimum utilisation of the body?s natural healing system which is curative and non-suppressive in nature.

Secondly, it is important to realise that the statement by the conventional system of medicine that ?psoriasis cannot be permanently cured? is only their own opinion, based according to the results achieved with their treatment.

The safety aspect also strengthens the case for homoeopathic medicines to be used for treating psoriasis. While using them, the patient is not exposed to the risk of toxicity as homeopathic medicines are highly diluted and side-effects are very uncommon.

Psoriasis is a chronic non-contagious skin disorder. It can affect any part of the body but most often occurs on scalp, elbows, knees, hands, feet and genitals. It may present itself with severe itching and physical discomfort. Although there are many types of psoriasis, the most common type is characterised by raised and thickened red patches covered with silvery scales. Many skin disorders may portray such symptoms, but three main features which differentiate psoriasis from other skin disorders are: psoriasis has well-defined borders. The surface has silvery scales that easily come off and the skin under the scales has a shiny red appearance

Half of the cases of psoriasis show some changes in their nails .There may be pitting, yellow – pink discoloration or complete loss of nail due to the involvement of nail matrix and nail-bed.

What causes psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a skin disorder caused by the over-reaction of our immune system. T-cells (a type of white blood cells) usually protect our body from certain infections and diseases, but in psoriasis they are put into an over-action mode along with other immune responses. This immune over-response leads to inflammation and fast production of immature skin cells. Usually, the production of skin cells takes about a month before they mature, but in psoriasis it may occur in only a few days. One-third of all the cases have a strong family history of psoriasis.

Homoeopathy for psoriasis

It is very clear from the above discussion that psoriasis is not so simple to prescribe for. So, it requires a lot of detailed study of the patient before anything can be prescribed. It requires a deep constitutional analysis. The history of the disease, the family medical history, physical and mental characteristics of the patient, the likes and dislikes, medication details are all taken into consideration. This approach stands in consonance with the homoeopathic convention: ?Treat the patient, not the disease?.

Acne- homeopathic treatment

acne and homeopathy…Let?s take the big question head-on. Does homeopathic treatment give permanent relief from those recurrent pimples? The answer is a big yes, but the treatment is quite different from the conventional ones. Homeopaths realise the truth in skin disorders. All forms of pimples (acne) are due to an internal disorder, Thus the usage of external application does not yield permanent results. Internal homeopathic medication is often the best natural option to stop the recurrence of acne and that too without side-effects. Medically speaking too, acne results out of an internal disorder. It is a disorder resulting from the action of hormones on the skin?s oil glands (sebaceous glands), which leads to plugged pores and the outbreak of lesions commonly called pimples or acne. They usually occur on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders. An important causative factor is an increase in hormones called androgens (male sex hormones). These increase in both boys and girls during puberty and cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge and make more sebum (oil). Hormonal changes related to pregnancy or starting or stopping birth control pills can also cause acne.Another factor is heredity or genetics. Researchers believe that the tendency to develop acne can be inherited from parents. For example, studies have shown that many school-age boys with acne have a family history of the disorder. Certain drugs, including androgens and lithium, are known to cause acne. Greasy cosmetics may alter the cells of the follicles and make them stick together, producing a plug. The following factors also influence the growth of acne: Changing hormone levels in adolescent girls and adult women two to seven days before their menstrual period starts; friction caused by leaning on or rubbing the skin pressure from backpacks, or tight collars; environmental irritants such as pollution and high humidity; squeezing or picking at blemishes, hard scrubbing of the skin, etc.Medicines for acneBelladonna: It is very useful in an acute flare-up where pus formation hasn?t started and acne is red and fiery looking. 30c potency of belladonna taken internally 3-4 times a day can be used to treat this acute stage.Pulsatilla: It is often the most indicated medicine in the treatment of acne in girls. Acne associated with menstrual abnormalities are often best treated with pulsatilla. It is strongly indicated in a mild, yielding and sensitive personality with a weeping disposition.Sulphur: No other medicine is more effective than sulphur, and covers nearly all kinds of acne. Dirty unhealthy skin and abuse of cosmetics are leading indication for its use. It is very useful in stopping the recurrence of pimples. Sulphur is a very deep acting medicine and should be used only in consultation with an experienced homoeopath.Hepar sulph: Hepar sulph. is very appropriate for treating acne that has an easy tendency to develop into pustules (filled with pus), also where acne is very painful to touch.Silicea (also called Silica): It is often indicated in cases of long-standing acne along with general low resistance and is often used for its scar-dissolving properties.Developing a natural resistance towards acne: Once the acute flare-ups have been attended to, one would like a natural resistance towards acne. A thorough constitutional treatment by an experienced homoeopath would do the needful

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a system of medicine, which has a different approach to disease and remedies from that of conventional or allopathic medicine. In Homeopathy the symptoms of the illness are viewed as an indication or sign of the bodies endeavour to heal itself. Homeopathy attempts to stimulate the body’s own natural healing capacity with remedies acting as a trigger.
Homeopathy has been well established for almost 200 years, although the principles upon which it is based have been known for thousands of years. It was organized into a modern science by Samuel Hahnemann a German doctor and chemist. Hahnemann was instrumental in the development of ‘like curing like’, that is to say a substance that would normally create the symptoms of a disease in a healthy person will actually cure that disease in a sick person.

Who uses Homeopathy?homeopathy-pills-4.jpg

The answer is quite simple, anyone! People are attracted to it because of its gentleness, power and ability to treat everyone as an individual. You do not have to be ill to benefit from homeopathic treatment. Homeopathy can be used by anyone of any age, for all physical, mental and emotional problems. Its gentle and non-invasive nature means many are first attracted to it as an alternative in pregnancy or for children’s health issues.

Homeopathic Treatment

What is Homeopathic treatment like?

When you go for a consultation, the homeopath will spend the necessary time getting to know all about you. You will be asked many questions about yourself, your lifestyle, the past health of you and your family and any symptoms of illness you may currently have.
After your case has been carefully considered you will most probably be prescribed a remedy, usually in the form of pills, flower essences and herbal tinctures. All remedies are easy to take, non-toxic and non-habit forming.

After I take the Homeopathic remedy…?

All remedies are easy to take, non-toxic and non-habit forming. People often feel a sense of well being and optimism after taking a remedy. It is sometimes the case that your symptoms may appear a little worse for a short time. This is a good sign and shows that the remedy is taking effect.

Can Homeopathic remedies be taken with conventional medicines?

Yes. Homeopathic remedies will not interfere with the effectiveness of conventional/allopathic medicine.

Are there any side effects from Homeopathic remedies?

Homeopathy is a completely safe system of medicine; it is by its very nature unable to be anything but of benefit to the patient. This is why it is safe for the very young, the elderly and the infirm. There are no side effects or drug dependencies possible with such a sure and gentle method of treatment.
The only ’side effects’ are that people frequently find that their health improves in other ways over and above curing the problem that they originally sought help for.

What do I do now?

Easy. Book a consultation and experience the difference

Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine

What is homeopathy?...

Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine suitable for everyone, young and old.

Homeopaths understand that mind and body function together as one interconnected whole, for example, when one part of your body is out of balance it has an effect on the whole of you.

Health is more than an absence of symptoms It is about well being in the widest sense about living full of vitality and creativity, about being whole. During a homeopathic consultation full details of your medical history will be discussed along with details of any current complaints and how it is for you to experience them in your day to day life.

How long has homeopathy been used?

Homeopathy has been used in the UK for over two hundred years, but has an honourable tradition dating back to ancient Greece. It was Samuel Hahnemann, a brilliant doctor working in 1796 who developed the scientific and philosophical foundations of this gentler way of healing. These scientific principles form the basis of successful homeopathic practice today.

what is Homeopathic

Homeopathy is a holistic approach to health and disease, one which considers the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of a person in order to determine treatment. Based upon the idea that a substance which causes certain symptoms in a healthy person will treat those same symptoms in a sick person, homeopathy may be employed to heal both acute and chronic problems. Homeopathic remedies prepared specifically for the individual who is sick will often cure the problem, rather than merely alleviate the symptoms.

Frustrated with the accepted approaches to healing in his day, eighteenth-century German physician Samuel Hahnemann can be credited with developing the homeopathic system of medicine. While translating medical texts to earn extra money, he read that the bark of the cinchona tree was considered effective in treating malaria due to its bitter taste. Doubting this reasoning, he experimented on himself. Although he did not have malaria, he ate the bark. He began to develop symptoms similar to that of the disease, but these symptoms disappeared when he stopped eating the bark. He based further experiments on the premise that a substance which causes a certain reaction in a healthy person may benefit a person who is sick with those symptoms. Hahnemann began researching this hypothesis with other plants and minerals. This led him to further develop his theories which now form the basis of modern homeopathy.

Homeopathic medicine's main principle is easily demonstrated in the homeopathic remedy Allium cepa, which is made from onion. Most people are familiar with the “symptoms” associated with chopping onions: watering, burning eyes and a runny nose. Allium cepa treats a person who has a cold with these symptoms. A cold with different symptoms, however, would require a different homeopathic remedy.

Homeopathic remedies are prepared by homeopathic pharmaceutical companies that are regulated by the FDA. These homeopathic remedies are extremely dilute preparations of the original botanical or mineral material. Through a standardized process of repeated dilutions and succusions (shaking with impact), the final dilution is typically applied to a small sugar pellet. A dose of the remedy is usually taken by dissolving a pellet or two under the tongue.

Because processing brings out properties not seen in doses of the crude substance, taking the homeopathic remedy Allium cepa, for instance, is not the same as eating onion itself. The homeopathic remedy has a completely different set of therapeutic actions and indications. Amazingly, many of the remedies are so dilute that it is unlikely that even one molecule of the original substance remains. However, the energetic "signature" of the original substance is maintained in the dilution as shown by nuclear magnetic resonance scanning, an extremely sensitive method of detection.

Due to their dilution, homeopathic remedies are extraordinarily safe. Unlike drugs, herbals or supplements, homeopathic remedies have no side effects and do not interact with any other medicines. They can safely be taken by children, pregnant women, elderly persons and even the family pet. An incorrect remedy has no dangerous effects. With a basic understanding of homeopathy, remedies found in health food stores may be safely self-administered for acute conditions such as a cold, flu or small injury. A professional homeopath should be consulted for chronic problems, however.

The correct homeopathic remedy will frequently cure a chronic condition. The goal of homeopathy is to eliminate disease and restore health, not merely manage symptoms. It can treat many common ailments such as asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, menopausal and menstrual disorders, depression, anxiety, multiple sclerosis, allergies, attention deficit disorder, eczema, fibromyalgia, chronic ear infections and just about anything that would cause a person to visit a physician.

Using the unique homeopathic approach, the individual is treated, not the specific "disease" per se. A homeopath asks questions about troublesome symptoms, and then evaluates how the individual interacts with their environment. Relevant information includes sleep patterns, foods craved, fears, the effects of weather and much more. The homeopath is trained to determine a single remedy to treat all of the individual's ailments. Determining the correct homeopathic remedy out of about 2500 possible remedies for chronic diseases requires time and skill. Different people with the same disease often require different remedies because we all express disease uniquely.

All health conditions, whether they be acute or chronic, are known to respond favorably to homeopathic medicine. More and more, people are adding homeopathy to their tools for good health.
